Jaguar’s Type 00 Concept Divides Fans After Goodwood Debut

Jaguar’s all-new Type 00 concept has caused a stir after its first public appearance at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, with reactions from the motoring world ranging from admiration to open confusion. Billed as a vision of Jaguar’s all-electric future, the Type 00 boasts a 478-mile range, ultra-fast charging, and a radically futuristic design language — but it’s the styling that has split opinion most.

Unveiled in a digital teaser ahead of Goodwood, the car’s dramatic lines and almost videogame-like silhouette were seen in action for the first time on the hill climb circuit. The public got a full view of its swooping rear light blade, low-slung bonnet, and ultra-minimalist cabin — more spaceship than saloon, and a marked departure from the XF, XJ, or E-Type DNA.

For some, this was a bold reinvention. “It’s time Jaguar stepped into the future,” said design consultant Dana Ellery. “This shows they’re not afraid to completely redefine what British luxury means in the electric age.”

Others were less convinced. Critics have called the car “soulless,” with some arguing it could easily be mistaken for a Chinese EV startup’s concept. Fans took to social media lamenting the lack of any heritage cues, particularly from Jaguar’s motorsport glory days. “Where’s the emotion? Where’s the Jaguar-ness?” wrote one long-time owner on Twitter.

The car’s interior also caught attention — not necessarily in a good way. The glass-heavy dashboard, slim steering yoke, and lack of physical buttons pushed the futuristic theme to the limit. Jaguar says the aim is to demonstrate software-driven control and over-the-air interface upgrades, but many attendees said it felt more Silicon Valley than Solihull.

Technically, though, the Type 00 is no joke. Jaguar claims 0–60 in 3.1 seconds, wireless 500kW charging capability, and a new “AI-assisted dynamic mode” that uses terrain scanning to alter ride stiffness and power delivery in real time.

The vehicle is not destined for production in its current form — but insiders suggest its styling and tech package will heavily influence the next generation of Jaguars, due in 2026. The first of these is expected to be a sleek electric four-door GT that will lead a three-model relaunch.

If nothing else, the Type 00 confirms Jaguar is serious about leaving its retro comfort zone behind. Whether fans will follow them into this sleek new world remains to be seen.
